Extinction Rebellion (XR) burst on the protest scene in 2018 with their witty and traffic-stopping rebellion to heighten awareness of how we are destroying our ecosystem, and thus, heading towards human extinction. The protests were attended by many young people, and the iconic Red Bloc. They did depend on the police being compliant, and only occasionally arresting people. This has changed as the ruling class sees how blocking roads is a threat. Although XR takes great care to explain to motorists and bus passengers why it is disrupting transport, anger has erupted from people impeded in this way.
