In 2025 Fer curated Orozco’s major Museo Jumex exhibition ‘Politécnico Nacional’ in Mexico City.

This new exhibition takes the form of a travelogue through time and space. Drawing on the artist’s interests in play and games as well as tropes from sci-fi and archaeology, the show travels through different zones to explore the formal logic that binds his interest in abstract art and existing materials, from twigs to toilet paper.

Pride of place goes to a longitudinally sliced Citroen. At first I thought it was a bubble car, which took me back to my 60s childhood, where they were a rare, but exciting sight. However this is a creation, making a familiar vehicle anew with its eerie thinness.

There are numerous installations, using circular paintings on their own or as part of larger displays. Either the artist is phenomenally productive, or he employs a bevvy of assistants to create these. The exhibition is intellectually ambitious but also playful, expansive and displays quiet humour.

Biography

Gabriel Orozco, born in Xalapa, Mexico in 1962, is one of the most influential conceptual artists of his generation. His highly mobile practice developed outside the idea of a fixed studio and embraces sculpture, photography, drawing, painting, installation and found objects.

The exhibition juxtaposes around 200 new and existing works by the artist, and coincides with the 10th anniversary of the ‘Orozco Garden’, a permanent commission at the South London Gallery, created in 2016.

It also marks 20 years since Orozco’s inaugural show with the gallery, ‘Twelve Paintings and a Drawing’, which took place at White Cube Mason’s Yard in 2006, and 30 years since his solo exhibition in London at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, presented concurrently with the project ‘Empty Club’ at Artangel.

https://www.whitecube.com/gallery-exhibitions/gabriel-orozco-bermondsey-2026

Art show at the White Cube: CHRONOS (TIME) + TOPOS (SPACE) = CHRONOTOPIC Bringing together approximately 200 new and existing works spanning sculpture, painting, photography,…

[33,39
59
post-1459","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-arts-culture","category-visual-arts","tag-art
["GET
